In your browser
Your display preferences (12- or 24-hour clock, seconds, theme), your world clocks and reference clock, the city you choose as your own, and the state of the timer, stopwatch, countdown and calendar are kept in your browser’s local storage, under keys that start with “hr:”. They are never sent to Hourora’s servers. You can remove them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
Cookies
Hourora sets one cookie for visitors, “lang”, and only when you pick a language from the language menu: it remembers that choice for a year, so the home page opens in your language. (A second cookie exists only so the site’s owner can keep his own browsers out of the visitor counter; it is never set for anyone else.) Advertising cookies may be set by Google only as described under “Advertising”.
Your approximate city
To label your clock with a nearby city, the page asks Hourora’s /api/geo address, which reads the approximate city, country and coordinates that our host, Vercel, derives from your connection’s IP address and passes along with the request. Hourora uses them only to pick a nearby city, and neither stores nor logs your IP address or the result. The time you see always follows your device’s own time zone; the city is only a label, and you can choose another.
The clock check
To check your device clock, the page asks /api/time a few times for the server’s time and compares it with your clock. Nothing beyond an ordinary web request is sent, and nothing is kept.
The visitor counter
The counter at the bottom of every page shows how many visits Hourora has had, by country. A visit is counted once per day per connection; the country comes from the header Vercel adds to each request. To recognise a repeat visit on the same day, Hourora keeps a keyed one-way fingerprint (an HMAC) of the date and your IP address, from which the address cannot be read back; fingerprints are kept only for the current and previous day and then deleted. The IP address itself is never stored, and no cookie is set for counting. Only the totals per country are kept, in a database hosted by Neon. Crawlers, link-preview fetchers and automated browsers are not counted.
Analytics
Hourora uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and a few product events (for example that a timer was started or an embed code copied). It works without cookies and does not store IP addresses; the events carry no personal data.
Advertising
Hourora shows advertisements from Google AdSense, clearly labelled, on content pages. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s certified consent message (IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) asks for your choice before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time with “Privacy choices” at the bottom of every page.
How Google uses information from sites that show its ads is explained in Google’s policy for partner sites.
The embeddable clock
The clock that other websites embed from Hourora sets no cookies, loads no analytics or advertising, and is not included in the visitor counter.
Hosting
Hourora is hosted by Vercel Inc., which processes each request in order to deliver the pages.
Your rights and contact
Apart from the short-lived visit fingerprints described above, which are deleted after about two days, Hourora keeps no personal data on its servers, so there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete; what is stored lives in your own browser. For any question about privacy, write to privacy@hourora.app. If you are in the EU, the UK or Switzerland, you may also complain to your data-protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
