Regional calendars differ: where the new moon falls close to sunset, the south, Singapore and other communities may keep Diwali one day earlier or later than New Delhi.
Diwali, the festival of lights, lasts five days; its main day is the new-moon night of the Hindu lunar month known as Kartika in the north and as the end of Ashvina in the south. The dates for 2025 and 2026 are those of the Government of India’s list of holidays. Later years are computed from the new moon and sunset in New Delhi and can move by a day when the official list is published.

How the date is worked out
Hourora computes these dates from published rules. Where a date depends on a local decision, such as moon-sighting or a regional panchang, the caveat above says so; the countdown is to the start of the calendar day in your own time zone.
