Bangladesh uses a solar Bengali calendar fixed to the Gregorian one. Since the Bangla Academy's 2019 revision (from 1426 Bangabda), Boishakh to Ashwin have 31 days, Kartik to Magh 30, Falgun 29 (30 in a Gregorian leap year) and Choitro 30. The year starts on 14 April with Pohela Boishakh.
The revision keeps national days on the same Bengali dates every year: 21 February is 8 Falgun, 26 March is 12 Choitro and 16 December is 1 Poush. From 1394 to 1425 (1987–2019) the first five months had 31 days and Falgun had 31 in leap years; Hourora applies whichever rule was in force.
Bangladesh and West Bengal
In West Bengal and other Indian states, the Bengali calendar remains the traditional sidereal one, whose months follow the Sun's passage through the zodiac signs and vary from 29 to 32 days; its new year falls on 14 or 15 April. Dates there can differ from those shown here by a day or two.
